One of the main reasons for Kotányi’s existence is Hungarian goulash. It’s for this specialty that Janos Kotányi opened his first paprika mill in Szeged in 1881. As he obviously had a nose for the best paprika powder of all, it didn’t take long for the first shop in Vienna to open in 1884. From here it was that he broadened his view to the whole wide world, opening his heart for an ever growing number of new herbs and spices. Until 1936, Budapest, Boston, Berlin, Munich and New York followed. This cosmopolitan attitude and curiosity is sustained by Kotányi until today: Kotányi has always had its finger on the pulse of its days and marked new territories as an avant-garde. As it is doing today as a quality-focused provider of organic herbs and spices for a new cuisine that represents a return to nature’s genuine gifts.
